I love watching his briefings and his live streams.

I watched the stream from last weekend and I think he's getting a bit annoyed at Y'allbot breaking in every few minutes. He says he can't turn it off, just dismiss the call. Worse, sometimes Y'allbot gives the wrong info, making the interruption even more annoying. Personally, I could do without it.

He surely wasn't happy about all the fuss about the groundhog...

It's a pointless tradition, IMO. I think what annoyed him more was the fact that Phil's prediction was read off a scroll and not from visual evidence.

I agree with Bill Murray from the 1993 movie "Groundhog Day"... "a thousand people freezing their butts off to look at a rodent".

Loved the movie. I often reference it when someone asks me, "How's it going?" I just say, "It's Groundhog Day". Most people get it.

But, that's Punxatawney's big tourist draw each year.

Makes you wonder how they survive the 364 other days of the year.

I think Ya'll Bot has an ego. Sometimes, it's very complementary,
while at other times, he reams someone a new butt!!

There was a Looney Tunes Cartoon years ago with Grover Groundhog,
who sings "A Groundhog and his shadow, are very important things".

Porky Pig is hunting the groundhog with a dog by the name of
"Mandrake" (sounds like something in one of the addons for L.O.R.D.
II). When the dog is startled by the groundhog, he screams "Don't
Do That!!". Then, looking at him, he surmises "You're a Groundhog".
Grover gives him a greenback, and says "That gets you one dollar.
Would you care to try for two??!!". <G>

A friend of mine, his daughter was born on Groundhog Day. I told
him to ask her if she re-lives her birthday each year. <G>

    year.

On the money they make on that one day. :P

This is one of those things that I must have somehow missed when I was growing up. I'd never heard of Groundhog Day or Punxatawney Phil until the movie "Groundhog Day" came out in 1993, and I was wondering what the title meant. When I learned what Groundhog Day is, I was wondering if people actually do that. :P

Quite a few of those things in the movie were obviously absurd.
But, that is their big tourism money maker each year.

In the wake of Phil's forecast for 6 more weeks of winter, there
have been a ton of memes on Phil's fate, including:

    1) Witness Protection Program.
    2) Jailed with repeated charges of escape attempts.
    3) Caught a flight to Mexico, where it was warmer.
    4) His ex-wife, divorcing him, as he was "a pathological liar".
    5) Dressed up in military fatigues, with a bulletproof vest,
a rifle, and magazines of shells.
    6) A wolf in the snow that said "he ate the groundhog, as he
had said '6 more weeks of winter'".

In short, Phil must have a lot of cousins or impersonators!! Of
course, he's not the only groundhog, but that's a yearly ritual.

Another cartoon had a groundhog in his underground burrow,
rapidly running between computers with weather data.

I will say that "the girlfriend" in the movie was rather cute. :)

There's a podcast called "I was there, too" where they interview people
with minor roles in major films. They interviewed Steven Tobolowsky, who
played Ned Ryerson, the insurance salesman who recognizes Bill Murray on
    the street several times.

It's interesting to see what they thought of the lead actors behind the
scenes, and what it was like filming the movie.
