You know, the media was constantly talking about the protests in Hong Kong, once the coronavirus came along, that was the end of that.
Please, don't take everything media says for granted.
I would like to think the media is hyping this up to try and make Trump look >like he can't handle it, and that the Flu is actually more dangerous, but then >who knows what those crazy asians were doing in the first place. We don't do >travel bans for the flu.

son and dad in Tampa, FL.

I work in the media. Let me tell you this. Meia exaggarates EVERYTHING. Everything is shocng to the point where you think it's APOCALYPSE NOW.
The biggest enemy of humans is panic and lack of knowledge. Eat your veggies, wash your hands, cough into elbow, stay away from other people who have high fever. Same measurements of precaution you would respect

It is amazing how in 15 yrs the thought of working at home has gone from your boss thinks anyone who works from home isn't working to, please, stay home if you're sick no big deal, dial in.
Funny we still call it "dialing in" tho.
At the place I was working at recently, the conference rooms each had their own phone line with teleconferencing devices we could use if we needed to teleconference with other people. We would dial in to a phone number to connect to the teleconference for audio. On our laptops though, we would just connect to the meeting using Microsoft Skype for Business (formerly called Lync), which would provide both audio and video.I can easily understand the feeling. Thats what happened with my last interview. It was on the phone but I was in Canada Quebec and he was in Tenesse
Also, for job interviews these days, I'm seeing more companies provide a meeting link where you'd have to sit down at a computer (or perhaps use a smartphone) to connect with audio and video.. Seems a little weird to me that they sometimes don't seem to want to make a simple phone call for the initial screening/interview.. Now I feel like I have to make myself look presentable even for that, when I'm not even leaving the house to see them in person.

Did you see my post a few months back about a company that sent me a link to an AI chat bot for the initial screen? It was for an entry-level position, still, but insulting nonetheless. I suppose it's the shape of things to come, but it's a little rough around the edges - and jarring now.

Here in the US, there's several (mainly Bill Maher, but others as well) that have said they'd like to see an economic crisis in time to have it effect the re-electability of Trump.

Probably... I'm not sure if it will be more/less than the Great Depression, it's definitely different... but the 1918 flu outbreak, maybe... the shelter in place will make it much less widespread, so may just be a blip for a year or two in the end, then the short term collective memory will resume.
