If the rig is wallmounted on a swivel arm, then that might be better.

I saw an article where this fellow was visiting a relative (maybe his
father or grandfather) at a home. The person is luckily on the ground
floor, so the younger of the two sits outside the window, and the older
inside, and they talk over the phone. That way they get to see each other every day without the younger person bringing germs to the older one.

These are the times we need to be creative! :)

I have seen many "residents" of those places NOT have TV's in every room. Instead, there is a communal TV in other open areas of the facility. If they can't walk themselves, they are wheeled to those rooms. When my mom was staying in such a place, the TV in her room was an extra charge, and it was an old 20" CRT. She had trouble operating the remote (tiny buttons) and sometimes the remote got lost under the blankets or was found on the floor.

A voice activated solution might work, but then there are the people who have trouble articulating words at some point. My mom was of the latter. So.. I would have liked a solution where I could control the camera by remote, from home, and pop up on the screen for her to at least say hello and let her know I was on my may to visit or something like that. The system would be ready 24/7.

There are several stories like that being reported here too. In one, both couples are seniors. But one of them is in the hospital, and the other one is outside at the window sending messages with a few large flash cards. At least they get to "see" each other.

But a TV/webcam rig for ought to be the norm in 2020.

I did just that at a previous job. We had a proprietary video conferencing system that was horrendously expensive, and commercial Skype on most
people's desktops (my company owned a part of Skype at the time)

We bought rollabout carts, took end-of-life dual core desktops, big monitors and Logitech orbit cameras to make a rolling Skype solution. Worked great.
