Do you know how to insert a Ctrl-A code aka "^A" in Midnight Commander in Linux? I've tried different ways and nothing works for me. Thanks.

I don't know, but if you're making text files with Synchronet attribute codes, often you can put \1 instead (that's literally a backslash followed by the number 1) in place of a Ctrl-A, and Synchronet will interpret that as the Ctrl-A for the attribute code.

I think that's only true in the text.dat and other source files (e.g. Baja or JavaScript source code).

I've never used it, but the answer to TM's question appears to be listed here: https://midnight-commander.org/wiki/doc/editor/hotkeys

that depends on the editor you are using with mc...

if you are using mcedit, you hit CTRL-Q and then the character you want to insert so

    CTRL-Q CTRL-A

will insert the ^A character for you...
