That's not a setting in SlyEdit, that's a Synchronet user setting.

The whole argument in the past was is about where the signature default selection should reside. With how it is buried in the User options under Password as a sub category, not too many users new to the scene may know that it is there and skip over it like I did. With Slyedit having the choice of Taglines, maybe it should be brought back up by the powers to be to experiment with adding a selection in Slyedit that if the user does not say Yes to Taglines, that they then can just add a default signature as their tagline. When you send anything to Areafix for Fidonet, the signature can cause issues if it contains any of the default actions in there, which can mess up the reason that you are sending a areafix to your hub.

No, SlyEdit does not add a signature. Synchronet adds the signature. To edit your signature, you need to go into the Synchronet user settings and choose the option that says "Change Password or Signature". It will ask you if you want to enter a different password - Choose No, and then it will ask you "Create/Edit Signature?" - Choose Yes. Synchronet will launch whatever editor you have chosen to edit & save your signature, and Synchronet will add that saved signature to your future messages.

Since Synchronet itself already has a mechanism to add a signature, I didn't feel the need to add that to SlyEdit. If there is some confusion about how to add a signature, perhaps it could be made more clear in Synchronet?

I see perhaps how new users might have an initial problem, but I imagine most newbies to the scene would take some time to explore. I'm sure it wouldn't be much to seperate it from the password prompt but this could also be explained to new users during signup as well in text/newuser.msg or text/sbbs.msg on setting their signature. I don't see why it would be added to any external editor since it's already a feature internally to Synchronet.

Older editors have a signature feature (I think DCT Edit is one), but SlyEdit is written in JavaScript specifically for Synchronet.. I had thought about updating SlyEdit to be compatible with Dorkit so it can work with other BBS packages (though I'm not sure if Dorkit is at a stage where that's feasible), and at that point perhaps SlyEdit could have its own signature feature (perhaps only when running with Dorkit).

it seems that you are missing the problem... granted sbbs adds the signature after the message is posted but on some messages it is desired to NOT have the signature... this is because it confuses the bot the message is being written to... so you either have to do without a signature OR you need to go through all those steps to disable the signature and then restore it later...

I see. That could be something SlyEdit could do. However, since Synchronet is normally the one adding a signature, I'm wondering if that might be the better place for a fix for this. I'm wondering if Digital Man would be open to the idea of having Synchronet adding a tear line before the signature..

It's like going on vaction and exploring a new town, ya just gotta get in there and check things out ... seems pretty obvious User Setting Change Password /Signature ... just one menu shows that option :-P

correct me if I'm wrong but I was told if you put a --------- under your
areafix statements areafix wont see anything under it.

What I would like to know is in SBBS how do you input color for your
signature?

no, it is a tear line you need to add... that's three dashes and properly followed by a space but many just take the three dashes with nothing else on the line...

it also isn't that they don't see anything under the tear line but that they ignore it for processing purposes... some areafix processors allow for the tear line and then some message text below that whixh is extracted and posted as a message to the operator of the system being areafixes...
