I'm not sure what I did (I'm going to use the default of everything I can just to test stuff out. When MRC connects, it doesn't scroll anything on the client screen. it just sits there. I can type /help and it shows the help text but there's no motd or anything showing. I wsa 'guessing' it might be a problem with my port 5000. but I haven't changed that port setting so whatever the settings are, the defaults are in the services.ini
Review the included readme.txt, follow through the Quick Start section and make sure all of the changes it describes are in place on your BBS.
Restart your services thread (or restart your BBS). And try again (even if you don't change any of the configuration).
It sounds like your system isn't connected to the remote MRC server, but the problem could be elsewhere. There *may* be some useful information in your services log, but I can't remember what I put there.
As long as port 5000 isn't already being used by something else on your system, that should be fine. Of course I know nothing about any firewall / security stuff in place on your system, but connections to this service only come from localhost - you don't need to open it up to the outside, etc.
I was thinking that too, but it shows my BBS on the list of connected systems.
