• Lubuntu Kicking off wi-fi

From Grease@VERT/DARKMATT to All on Tuesday, September 01, 2026 12:00:36
I recently switched from EndeavourOS(Arch) to Lubuntu when my HP laptop died. I got a newer old ASUS and am using that now. I had no problem running the board with Arch and the HP, but am having some issues with ASus and Lubuntu.

My wi-fi keeps changing my address on the laptop. I have an Eero router and am usining Eero+ for better security. This happens every couple or three hours.

    What I have done:
    1. I have disabled powersaving. I went into Network Manager and I edited this file: /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
    I changed the wifi.powersave from a 3 to a 2.

    2. In LXQT, I turned off the screen saver.

    Questions:
    1. Eero+ has it's own DNS service to help with security. Could this be affecting it? Not using 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8?
I like the extra security, but I can turn it off and lose it.

    2. I don't know anything else. Any suggestions?

Change DHCP and NAT to manual?
I do have a reservation and port forwarding set for the laptop. The address keeps changing from XXX.XXX.X.90 to 91 and vice versa. I just change the reservation address and things work again. It's just getting monotonous.

This is totally between the wifi client
and the DHCP server, and shouldn't be
affected by anything else like DNS or
    whatever. Power saving? I suppose,
maybe, if for some reason your DHCP
server thought the first IP was already
in use and had to assign a different
one.. But what I was thinking about was
that there is often a setting for MAC
address security... which I think tries
to randomize your MAC address on wifi
networks to prevent tracking. Do you
have any setting like that anywhere?

I see nothing, but the MAC address of the wi-fi. The only thing I see is Eero+. It's supposed to be some type of enhanced security. I'm going to turn it off and see what happens.
